Needing Something New!

Well, I decided we needed something new on here. And I'm a slacker. I have really fallen behind on family reunion stuff. As everyone can probably see from the voting, the t-shirt slogan that won is:

Lymans -- not just a bunch of stiffs!

As we are now in June, that leaves us with 5 months to finish up our planning for this shindig. Are we all pretty happy with things as they are right now? Anybody need anything?

Well, I can't think of too much else to say at the moment. But, I figure we always need a picture!

So, this is a bunch of bathing beauties and one bathing studly around Summer 1990 -- the same year the cockroach fell out of the sugar.

Love to all!

Thoughts from Aunt M

How many people are going to be doing the cooking for these 2 nights of food? I think we need to be sure that we have a place where we can all lend a hand, cuz I would hate to see only a few people getting stuck with too much for them to do. I think it would be a good idea if we organized it the way they do at restaurants where you have someone to chop up veggies, someone grates and or slices up the cheezes, someone tends to stove top stuff and someone else does prep for meats and what not. Let me know what you think about that. Oh yes and then a group to do the set-up for the tables and a group to actually plan decorations and well you know what I mean. Anyway maybe you can throw this thought onto the blog. Let me know what you think.

End of T-Shirt Polls 1 & 2

Okay everyone! Thanks for voting, those of you who did! I left the results up for a few days, but for those of you who did not see the results, they are as follows:

Poll 1:
60% of the votes were for everyone wearing one color
40% of the votes were for having different colors for different family branches

Poll 2:
20% of the votes were for one-sided shirts
80% of the votes were for two-sided shirts

So, the results are that we will have two-sided shirts, and everyone will wear the same color!

Now, a couple of things to consider: I have had several comments that some people voted for different colors for family branches so that those of us who have not met each other before (let's face it, 20 years has brought a lot of changes and new family members!) would at least know how each person is related. Which makes lots of sense. So, Mrs. S had made a suggestion that we could wear different colored bracelets to signify to which family branch we belong. Other suggestions have been pins and headbands. Either way, we will figure out a way so that we can identify who belongs to whom :).

So, the next issue at hand is deciding on a color for the t-shirts. So, I need suggestions so we can vote later on! So, please either email them to me or put them in the comments!

Also, (Aunt) Hila has volunteered to do the "Family Awards". So, I don't know if she has all the categories yet, but she probably wouldn't mind if you sent her ideas, either through email or through comments!

And, I will send this post out in a mass email so that everyone knows about it! So don't be surprised if you've already read this word-for-word in an email ;).

Pictures

Hi everyone! A couple things on pictures... I have pictures from G&G's 50th wedding anniversary, but they are all at my dad's. I will get them when I go to Dothan for Spring Break and I will scan them in. I'm sure several of you also have pictures from then, but if not, I know my mom took a lot of pictures and organized them. Also she has several from Elka's wedding. I will see what I can come up with :).

In other photo news... (Aunt) Mounyen has asked that, in addition to posting pictures here, that we also send them directly to (Uncle) Mark's email. His email is as follows:

This will make it easier for him to compile. I still think it would be fun to post them here as well, though, because we can add stories to go with them sometimes :)! So, if you posted a picture, please also send it (or them) to (Uncle) Mark. Also, make sure to put in the subject line of the email something referring to the reunion, so he knows what it is!

And, I thought I would share one more picture (or two):This picture of Grandpa and Desiree was taken Halloween 2007.

This picture is of Jeff (friend of Ben's), Hila, Brad, Ben, (Aunt) Sue, Christina, and Jimmy around 1991, I believe.

Thank You Everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far! I'm so excited! (I'm also such a dork!)

Okay, Aunt Mounyen made a new suggestion: she said Uncle Mark can set up a video camera and do interviews with everyone. And I think that sounds really neat! It will be something to watch in the years ahead! She also suggested Uncle Mark being able to do a collage of pictures of all the family members, some younger pictures and then some older pictures! I love both of these ideas!

Also, Aunt Sue volunteered herself and Uncle Ernie to do the reunion photography. So, though I'm sure several of us will have cameras there (I know I will.... If nothing else, I'll have to take a picture of the food! :)), but it will be good to have someone with a nice digital camera who is "in charge" of the photography!

I really am excited about our reunion! I can't wait! Love to all!

Priveleges

Okay, I have granted admin priveleges to everyone who has signed up so far ;). Just wanted to let you all know that. This means that, if you log in, you can moderate comments, etc. The comments will still come to my email, but all of you can post them whenever you see them.

I like Aunt Hila's comment about lime green shirts. Never thought of it before. Yes, we might have a burning desire (no pun intended) to wear sunglasses every time we look at the pictures... :). But it would certainly be unique! And, actually, I think most (if not all) of us are darker complected (whiteness aside), so maybe we wouldn't look too terribly washed out in a bright color :). Anyway, I think it's a good suggestion. Maybe that should be one of the first polls. How we want to do the t-shirt thing. Oh, so many choices!! I like them all! Maybe we need to plan on 3 reunions so we can do all the shirt choices ;)!!!

More

Okay, so I am assuming, since no one emailed to say they don't want to have it there, that doing the reunion at the funeral home where my mom (Debbie) works is acceptable to everyone. So I posted that under the "what we know" section.

Random ideas: we can post the recipes we want to have and stuff like that here! For example, Elka, you mentioned Great-Aunt Hila's yeast rolls, I believe. Well, I don't have that recipe, so how about posting it here! And since having a family recipe book was also a suggestion, this is a great place to compile them for whoever wants to head that up!

Also, we can upload pictures respectively so we can all have access to these pictures! Just an idea for collecting photos from all branches of the family!

Also, I am going to say that we should have all ideas for the family slogan in by Friday, February 15th so I can create the poll! Then we can take a couple of weeks to vote on it! I have all suggestions already made and will post all of those in the poll, plus any additional suggestions that might come in between now and February 15th.

Okay, I think that's all for now.

Oh, and email me and let me know if we want this blog only visible to family members. That is an option. I can make it to where only people who have a valid email address can view it. But that means I have to have everyone's email address so I can put them all in! So, just let me know!

Learning...

Okay, I have changed a couple of things. I have just changed the admin name to Nilla. And I deleted my other profile using a different email address. Simpler that way. Okay, and I also have discovered that I can give anyone admin priveleges, so you can post polls and stuff too if you want! So, I will grant everyone who signs up to post to this blog admin status so that you don't have to go through me!

Beginning!

Okay guys, just so it's not plain and boring when you get here, here's a mini-post! I chose green to kind of be like "lime" for Lymans. Hope that's not too cheesy! I hope it works where you guys can all log in and stuff. I've never done it this way, so this is a test, I guess :). But let me just say, I am excited about our family reunion! I know it will be a blast!

So, more to come soon! I will add polls and post things where we can all suggest slogans (and I will include those already offered). Also, for adding the things like polls, I will have to be the one to do that, because I just found out I can't do anything when logged in as Nilla other than post. The Lyman Family is the admin thing I used to log-in, so anytime I try to do anything other than post something, I will have to be logged in like that. So, if you want to see something polled or whatever, just let me know and I'll add it!

You're Either One of Us, or You Just Wish You Were so Lucky!
