Background Change Again

Hey all,

I changed the background again. Sorry if I upset anyone. My mom chose it because she said it was almost annoyingly lyme green! Go Lymans!

More Ingredient Info.

Hello! I hope everyone got my email from last night about the t-shirts :)!!! I'm excited to see them. And don't forget to send recipes!!!

I will also be posting a couple more recipes later, complete with pictures :).

I just wanted to quickly let everyone know about our huge success in finding ingredients for cheap!!! I've been watching the sales ads like a hawk, and it is paying off!

We got a 24 pound turkey for $15!!! (It would have cost $32).
We got Grandpa's cornish hen for $3.50

It seems there were other things, but I can't really remember.

Also, I will be adding a new poll to vote on pies for the reunion. Please cast a vote once the poll is up!!

Good News on Menu Ingredients!

Just to keep everyone posted on things that don't really matter ;)...

We have the asparagus for the reunion. They had a great price on them, so we got 5 pounds, and we have frozen them. So, that pretty much takes care of 2 of the menu items: the blackberry lemonade and the asparagus. We still don't have anything to put on the asparagus, but I figure that can come then. The important part is that we got them at a great price and we are now ready with the asparagus!

Also, the poll closed on the t-shirt graphic. The majority vote was for the cemetary scene, so we will be sticking with the design I sent out. Again, those who have not gotten me the info on whether or not you want a shirt and what size you would like, please get that info to me ASAP. We would like to order them this week so we can be sure to have them here for the reunion!

And finally, a great recipe (and photo will be added later).

Brownies
1 cup cocoa
1 tsp. extract (this can be any extract you like. My mom uses mint, vanilla, or almond)
1 1/2 c. butter or margarine
2 c. sugar
1 c. + 4 tablespoons flour
4 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chocolate chips (optional)

Melt butter and mix in cocoa. Stir in sugar. Add eggs and extract. Combine flour and baking powder. Add to butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips, if desired. Grease 9x13 pan. Pour in batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes, until toothpick barely comes out clean. Remove to cool on rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Cut into squares.

Reunion Day Menu

I recently talked to Aunt Nene and she has given me most of the menu items she has thought of. A few of these are specific recipes that she is also sending on, but the others are more general. So here is what we have so far:

Main dish:
Turkey with plum sauce (have to see what size turkey we need to get for about 30 to 35 people)
Cornish Hen with plum sauce(for Grandpa)
Question: Does anyone want ham as well? I know Grandpa can't eat the ham, but if there are a lot of people wh would like a ham there, we need to know so it can go on the grocery list.

Side dishes:
Stuffing
mashed potatoes with gravy
waldorf salad (Grandma is making this)
asparagus? (Aunt Nene said she couldn't think of really great ideas for veggies, but that she likes asparagus)
green bean casserole?
cranberry sauce (from the can)
frozen fruit salad
sweet potatoes w/marshmallows on top

Other suggestions:
a veggie tray
bread

Dessert:
pumpkin pie
pumpkin custard (for Grandpa)
blackberry pie?

Drinks:
blackberry lemonade
sparkling cider
water
(do we need another? if so, I have a punch recipe that was a hit at a recent party in Dothan).

Okay, so please let me know if you have other suggestions. And thanks, Aunt Nene, for putting all this together and finding ways to make Grandpa's dinner delicious and flavorful!

Blog Background

I put up a new blog background in honor of Aunt Sue, since it's Breast Cancer Awareness month an all. I'll take it down in November.

New Poll and Picture

Okay everyone, please note that there is a new poll on the right-hand side of the blog. We are voting on the t-shirt graphic. Mostly we just want to be sure that everyone is happy with it. I sent out a link through email, but for anyone who hasn't gotten it, here is the link again:

That will take you to a picture of the front (which has the quote at the top of this blog) and the back. It also gives the t-shirt description for anyone interested in knowing, as well as listing the sizes available.

Because Grandma doesn't vote on these, I will tell you what her vote was. She wants the shirt as is, rather than changing the graphic to a lime. But, we will go with a majority vote. So, please just vote and let me know how you feel. Once we have a deciding vote (we'll give it a week), we'll get the shirts ordered. You can still email me with the sizes you need and the quantity.

Also, I talked to my mom about it. She will order the t-shirts and you can pay her when you get here if you want. You can pre-pay and send the money early if you so desire. But if you would rather wait until you're here, she said that is fine. Again, the cost is $11.40 per shirt. At least that's the quote I got based on the number I figured. If they are a little less, we'll refund the money. If they are a little more, we'll cover it. Anyway, just let me know! Love to all!

And here's another picture from yesteryear! Aunt Hila, you probably haven't ever seen this one before, so hope you like it! It's from 1996 when Elka and Mrs. S went to Panama. It's not clickable, though. I need to download Firefox on my mom's computer!

Back to Work!

Yes, there had been no updates for forever! I was thrilled to see a new one from the Little E Fam :). And thrilled to hear that their tickets are bought! Woohoo! I'm in Washington, though I'm pretty sure everyone knows that now. My next order of business is to get a job. Followed closely (hopefully) by having my own apartment or something!

Okay, so several people have been asking me about the t-shirt thing. If we want to get a good deal on them, we should probably get moving on that pretty quickly. I'll see what I can find out. Perhaps there is a local place that can do them at a decent price. I'll keep you posted! Do let me know in comments, though, about how many and what sizes you need! That way I have an idea :).

I'm glad that we're going to start working on this reunion again! I was missing the excitement of it :). Can't wait to see everyone!

You're Either One of Us, or You Just Wish You Were so Lucky!
