aunt m

so i had the brilliant idea that we could do a tribute post to our aunts/moms/sisters etc., and since everyone always does oldest to youngest it might be nice to switch it up a bit. it could be fond memories, funny stories, admirable traits, whatever we associate/remember about each woman. hopefully, you all agree. just add to the post or leave a story in the comment box if you can't remember your password (hp).
on to aunt m...
one of my first memories was when she was trimming my hair. i remember her commenting (something to the effect of), whoever cut her hair last (talking to my mom, i believe) really butchered the ends. laughing, my mom confessed it was her. which lead to more laughter, i believe. of course, i could be making this story up because i felt my hair was really getting butchered, but i believe it's accurate. what i need here is a freakish memory! i also remember (stepping on mrs. s's toes here, sorry) during mrs. s's marriage, aunt m went about doing what needed to be done. she wasn't under foot asking how she could help, she just saw a need and filled it. she and uncle m were putting together a video for remembrance of their (mr. n & mrs. s) day, and it turned out beautiful. it showed reliability. (also took a lot of stress off of the parents that day!) she's also so very quick to shoot an email in response to my many forwards and always asking how we are doing. i am so grateful for that. it's going to be awesome to continue to add memories!

Nilla's Memory of Aunt M:
Funny, Elka, one of the first memories I have of Aunt M is a hair story too! It was the summer we were all together for that picture (over on the right). You, Mrs S, and I all had our hair "done" by Aunt M. I remember her saying something to the effect of your hair being really thick, mine being in the middle, and Mrs S's hair being super thin. I think she curled all of our hair for the pictures. The other memory I have is from one time when we were up visiting (I think it was just our branch of the family that was up there) and I just remember riding around in the back of their van, and I think we were going to Point Defiance Zoo or something like that. I got salt water taffy on that trip (yeah, leave it to me to remember the food clearly ;)). I guess I don't have that much to add here, which stinks :(. I'm looking forward to creating new memories! Oh, but I bet our moms have hilarious stories they can tell! I'm excited to hear those!

Mrs. S's Memory of Aunt M:

Okay, so elka really did take my favorite...how she helped at my wedding. I remember as a young girl watching her dance and thinking she was really pretty. I honestly don't remember anything about hair. Ask my mom about Aunt M and the Baby Ruth with the moth in it...that is one of my favorite stories to hear her tell because she laughs so hard she has to hold her chest and can't talk coherently!

HP's Memory of Aunt M:

We were in our teens, too young to drive. Our mom or dad or both stopped at the chinese garden in Margarita to buy some bananas. We must have stopped by the Margarita club house before that because M was eating a baby ruth. She bit into it and there was a moth inside. It was so funny to see her leaning out the car door spitting that stuff out of her mouth. Well, okay, maybe it really wasn't that funny, but I'm telling you that I have tears in my eyes just remembering the incident. Thanks for such a great memory. It is so good to be able to laugh. Laughing makes this life bearable! Love, H

Deb's Memory of Aunt M:

Okay, I forgot my password and ID. What can I say. My memory isn't what it used to be. I remember "rescuing" when I couldn't swim well. I don't remember all the details, I just remember thinking I could rescue her when we were in the lake. My mom and dad watched from the shore. M is still kicking so I guess I did the job.

Also, when I was just in WA, my said "Neenie, Neenie, come back with your weenie." She said Grandpa used to say that to Aunt Nene. I'm sure there's a story behind this, but I don't know it. However, I thought it was funny anyway.
